Portrait Workshop with Clayton Beck III

Woodlands Art League Gallery at Market Street
presents Clayton Beck III

After graduation from the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Clayton studied at the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts with Richard Schmid. Clayton’s career began while still at the American Academy, exhibiting at Jody Kirberger’s Talisman Gallery and winning awards from the Midwest Pastel Society, the Palette and Chisel and the Pastel Society of America. He began teaching Saturday classes in Chicago after graduation from art school.

Artist Statement: "My love for painting has always been enhanced by my love to teach. Any artist who thinks they understand painting should try teaching. They will soon realize how little they know. I have always felt that I have a responsibility to teach because I have been given a generous gift from my teachers (i.e. Bill Parks, Ted Smuskiewicz, and Richard Schmid) and it should be passed on to the next generation of painters who share this love of art."

Recently, Clayton has been featured in International Artist Magazine, and in last fall's American Artist Workshop Magazine.

Workshop offerings:
Week 1: Portrait Painting Nov 8-12 9am-4pm $450
Week 2: Portrait Painting/looking at masters such as Sargent, Fechin, Mancini... Nov 15-19 9am-4pm $450

Woodlands Art League wins Chairman's Ball Award

On Saturday night August 21st, South Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce held its annual Chairman's Ball at the Waterway Marriott Hotel. Woodlands Art League participated in the event by sponsoring a Tabletop decoration. This was WAL's first time to attend the Chairman's Ball and also to donate their efforts by decorating one of 58 banquet tables at the event. Numerous WAL members assisted with this endeavor and to everyone's delight, Woodlands Art League was awarded a wonderful trophy for the "Best Use of Theme" category! HOLLY HUNTER BERRY PALETTE KNIFE WORKSHOP

SPONSORED BY THE CONROE ART LEAGUE

Hi Everyone,

We still have openings in Holly Hunter Berry's Palette Knife workshop this Saturday, Aug. 7. It's only $65 for the day and you will learn lots of great information as well as tons of fun doing it.

By summer's end, we will be ready for a fun one-day workshop to rejuvenate our artistic juices anew and get us geared up for the fall shows. Holly Hunter Berry is the perfect instructor to motivate us as she demonstrates the implementation of color, design and texture using a palette knife as a main tool.

Media: Acrylics or Oil
Date: Saturday, August 7
Cost: $65
Location: Christ Church, League Line Rd., Conroe

See course description below.

Learn how to effortlessly and intuitively apply acrylic or oil paint (with brushes, knife, even fingers) and other materials, including charcoal, crayons, pencils and more, in this mixed-media class. Demonstrations with extensive explanations plus personal guidance will aid in helping find your "voice" as an artist.
Your "toolbox," the elements of design, will be reinforced as you enjoy the freedom in exploring materials and being confident as you create, knowing the "why" behind the choices of color, composition, etc.
We will work from photos and/or drawings. Holly will be sharing many things from her studio so you may experiment.
All levels. Only a desire to create and have fun is required.

Holly will be bringing some materials for you to borrow and experiment with if needed such as various paints, papers, mediums and even some unusual knives!
A supply list will be given out upon registration.

WAL Opens Market Street Art Gallery!

Warm greetings WAL Members,

It is with great pleasure and excitement that the WAL board of directors is pleased to announce that TM MARKET STREET LLC has granted Woodlands Art League a temporary license space for the right to show art and to offer art classes. Members, we have a gallery!

The temporary license runs from August 1st, to December 31st, with first right of renewal. Rent for the space is $500 plus electricity and is located at 9595 Six Pines #1370, across from Aaron Brothers Art. The space is about 2,800 square ft., with a large back room that we will be using for studio classes, workshops and group gatherings to expand our artistic interests. The space is well suited for our needs and is in very good condition except for the lack of a good cleaning (currently underway) and possible repainting. We have been able to obtain some free fixtures and materials to build three model platforms. We also have plenty of room to house a children's program, library, gathering area, and exhibition.

We are not letting go of our other venues with the Community Center or the Library as it is important that we stay connected to these venues for our many community activities. In fact many venues to show art in our community have opened up for us to act on in the coming months.

This new space helps to advance our mission statement which is: “The League’s purpose is to further the cause and interest in the visual arts through scholarships, teaching, programs, demonstrations, exhibitions, and community involvement." Our league was founded exclusively for educational purposes and is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. We are WAL, a unique group of artists and supporters of the arts. Let’s all come together in the next few months, make this opportunity a huge success, and show The Woodlands and surrounding communities the wealth of talent available for them.

Further information concerning classes, workshops, events, and collection of art work for the Gallery will be announced through our web site very soon.
Thank you, to all the board members and members who have worked so hard to make this Gallery come together in less than a month.

Sincerely,
Vida Tuminas, President
Woodlands Art League
